Pack Expo Preview: What’s New?

By Christine Pietryla Wetzler

Pack Expo remains the largest packaging event of the year. It’s taking place October 14 – 17, 2018 in Chicago at McCormick Place. It features more than 2,500 exhibitors in 40 vertical markets and expects more than 50,000 attendees over the three-day event.

New in 2018, the PACKage Printing Pavilion will display the latest smart packaging printing applications, digital color printing and converting options, and labeling, coding and marking solutions. Three more pavilions make it easier to narrow your search for the right partner or solution.

The Containers & Materials Pavilion will be home to paperboard, glass, metal and plastic flexible and resealable packaging and the Dow-sponsored “Showcase of Packaging Innovations®.”

In the South Hall, The Confectionery Pavilion is where you’ll find aeration, batch refining, shaping, enrobing and cluster production solutions as well as cooling conveyors and easy-open packaging.

Moreover, in the Upper Lakeside Hall, you’ll find all the world’s reusable products and services in the Reusable Packaging Pavilion. This area also features free presentations about achieving a more sustainable supply chain from the Reusable Packaging Association.

You’ll also find more free educational sessions on the show floor that make it easy to learn something new quickly.

Drop by Innovation Stage in the Upper North Building and West Building for 30-minute seminars on hot topics and breakthroughs.

The Forum is new this year – it’s designed to give you insight into the impact of industry trends including by the OpX Leadership Network, World Packaging Organization, Institute of Packaging Professionals, Contract Packagers Association and PMMI Business Intelligence. Sessions will be interactive, including hands-on activities, small group discussions and Q&A sessions.

Because its one of the best places to plug into industry trends and technologies, Pack Expo is a huge draw for students looking to build skills in the packaging, materials and sustainability areas. This year’s event will be no different and welcomes students to its Amazing Packaging Race where teams of students race around the show floor in a competition to perform tasks at the booths of participating exhibitors.

You can meet these talented up-and-comers (or seasoned industry veterans, too) during CareerLink at the show. Here you will interview for your company’s current openings or future opportunities with qualified candidates.

And, if you’re a fascinated by technology do not miss the high school robotics teams that come from the across the country to showcase their design, engineering and troubleshooting skills at the Future Innovators Robotics Showcase.
