PPG appoints Amy Mercante general manager of specialty products

Newly formed segment to offer solutions to high-growth industries and markets

PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced it has appointed Amy Mercante as general manager of specialty products, a role in the Company’s Specialty Coatings and Materials (SCM) strategic business unit.

In this newly created role, Mercante will provide strategic and operational leadership to the newly formed specialty products segment, comprised of the specialty synthesis group, optical monomers and coatings, and TESLIN® products business lines to ensure their profitable and sustainable growth. Mercante is reentering the SCM business, where she previously served as the global business director for Teslin substrate products. She will report to Juliane Hefel, PPG vice president, SCM.

“We are excited to welcome Amy back into the SCM business. Her expansive experience and unique understanding of PPG’s SCM business, combined with her commercial acumen and ability to lead large, diverse teams, make her ideally suited for this role,” said Hefel. “Our specialty products business is highly differentiated, offering unique and innovative solutions to high-growth industries and markets. Amy is the ideal person to lead these unique businesses and deliver on the mission to disrupt the industries we serve.”

Mercante has more than 30 years of industry experience, joining PPG in 1991 as a chemistry trainee. Most recently she served as director of PPG’s global enterprise resource planning standardization project, where she led the effort to implement a standardized template for the entire global enterprise. She has held roles of increasing responsibility in marketing, sales, operations and the lab within the industrial coatings and architectural coatings business units.

“PPG’s SMC business and specialty products offerings provide real solutions, bring significant value to our customers and enhance the surfaces and materials critical in our daily lives,” said Mercante. “I look forward to engaging with the many potential opportunities for both our customers and PPG.”
