Power Adhesives and APPLIED Announce Exclusive Partnership for World’s First Biodegradable Hot Melts in the Americas
Power Adhesives is a UK-headquartered company that is a leading manufacturer of hot melt adhesives and related products. APPLIED is a US-based company that provides comprehensive adhesive solutions including connecting customers with the right adhesives, equipment, parts, and services they need.
In September 2024, Power Adhesives announced the development of the world’s first biodegradable hot melt adhesive — Tecbond 214B. Traditional hot melts are usually made from petroleum-based materials and can have a negative impact on the environment. In contrast, this groundbreaking hot melt is 45% bio-based and 100% biodegradable. It will break down naturally when exposed to oxygen, UV light, and heat without leaving behind any harmful chemicals. It is also ASTM D6400, EN13432, and FDA 175.105 certified.
Tecbond 214B is also just the beginning. While it is a great basic product assembly adhesive, Power Adhesives is working on creating a full range of product assembly and packaging adhesives that are biodegradable, including the new Tecbond 110B used in high-speed packaging applications. These products will meet more niche needs for companies looking for more sustainable solutions compared to traditional hot melts.
Recently, Power Adhesives and APPLIED have entered into a unique partnership. APPLIED will be the primary supplier of Tecbond biodegradable hot melt adhesives in North and South America.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Power Adhesives to bring this innovative, eco-conscious adhesive to the Americas,” said Dustin Heigl, VP of Business Development at APPLIED. “This partnership aligns with our commitment to be more sustainable and offers businesses across the region an effective solution to try to reduce their negative environmental impact.”
Biodegradable hot melts offer an alternative solution that will help eco-conscious businesses improve their sustainability practices and reduce waste. By choosing a biodegradable option, companies can decrease their negative impact on the environment without compromising performance.
